A good product video answers the questions a buyer would otherwise email you about: what it looks like in use, how big it really is, how it is made and packed. AI tools now make the editing side fast and cheap: scripts, voiceovers in several languages, subtitles, even a presenter. The filming side still has to be real.
Use this checklist before you produce or upload a video for an Alibaba.com or Amazon listing.
1. Decide what the video is for
Pick one job per video. Trying to do everything produces a long video nobody finishes.
| Video type | Best for | Typical length |
|---|---|---|
| Product overview | Main listing video on Alibaba.com or Amazon | 30–90 seconds |
| How it works / demo | Technical products, machinery, electronics | 1–3 minutes |
| Factory and QC tour | Alibaba.com supplier profile, B2B trust | 1–3 minutes |
| Packaging and loading | Wholesale buyers checking export packing | 30–60 seconds |
| Unboxing and setup | Amazon consumer products | 1–2 minutes |
2. Film the real things
Shoot these yourself, on a phone if necessary. Real footage is what makes a video credible.
- The product from every side, with a hand or a ruler in frame to show real size.
- The product working: the pump pumping, the light switching on, the material flexing.
- Close-ups of quality details: welds, stitching, finishes, labels and certification marks.
- For B2B buyers: the production line, quality checks, testing equipment, the warehouse and export packing.
- Steady, well-lit shots: natural light or a simple LED panel, a clean background, horizontal framing unless the platform asks for vertical.
3. Let AI do the editing work
This is where AI tools save real time and money.
- Script: give an AI assistant your specs, three selling points and the buyer type, and ask for a 60-second script with a strong first line. Check every claim.
- Voiceover: AI voice tools can read the script in natural-sounding English and other languages. Listen to the whole thing; mispronounced product names are common.
- Subtitles: add burned-in captions. Amazon's guidance points out that some customers watch without sound.
- Translation: create versions for your main markets (Spanish, German, Russian, Arabic and so on) from the same footage. Have a native speaker check product terms.
- Presenter: an AI avatar can explain specifications, options and ordering terms over your real footage. Label it honestly and keep the product shots real.
- Editing: AI editors can cut silences, suggest b-roll and resize for different placements.
4. Structure the main video
- First 5 seconds: the product doing its main job. No logo animation, no factory gate.
- Next 20–40 seconds: the two or three features buyers care about most, each shown, not just said.
- Proof: certifications, a test, a size comparison.
- For B2B: one line on MOQ, customization or lead time, if the platform allows it.
- End: the product name and what makes it different. No phone numbers or websites (see the rules below).
5. Check the platform rules before uploading
Amazon
Amazon's seller guidance (May 2025) lists these points for adding videos to product listings:
- Formats .mov or .mp4, resolution up to 1080p, files up to 5 GB.
- Amazon reviews each video before it goes live, usually within a few days; rejected videos show a reason in Seller Central.
- Most successful videos are 30 to 90 seconds, with the key feature in the first 5 to 10 seconds.
- Eligibility depends on your account and program (for example Brand Registry for some placements), so check what your account can use.
Amazon reviews videos against its content guidelines. As a rule, keep out anything that sends shoppers away from Amazon or could date or mislead: website addresses, email or phone contacts, prices and discounts, comparisons with named competitors and claims you cannot prove. Check the current guidelines in Seller Central before you export.
Alibaba.com
- Video counts toward your listing's Product Information Score, which Alibaba.com uses when ranking listings, so every important product should have one.
- Length, file size and format limits are shown in the upload screen of your seller account and change over time. Check them there before you export, and keep a high-quality master file so you can re-export if limits change.
- B2B buyers on Alibaba.com look for proof of manufacturing: a factory and QC video on your company profile supports every product video.
- Keep contact details and links to other websites out of the video, and nothing that misrepresents the product. Check Alibaba.com's current product posting rules in your seller account before you upload.
6. Final checklist
- One clear job per video
- Product, factory and tests filmed for real; nothing AI-generated presented as real
- Script and every claim checked by a person; product names pronounced correctly
- Burned-in subtitles; translated versions checked by native speakers
- Main feature visible in the first 5 seconds; main video 30–90 seconds
- No prices, contact details, URLs or competitor names in marketplace videos
- Exported to the formats and limits your platform shows on the upload screen
- High-quality master file saved for future edits and new languages

FAQ
How long should a product video be?
Amazon's own seller guidance says most successful product videos run 30 to 90 seconds and should show the most important feature in the first 5 to 10 seconds. For Alibaba.com, a short main video (under about a minute) plus longer factory or demo videos works well for B2B buyers.
Can I use an AI avatar presenter in my product video?
Yes, for explaining features, specs and ordering terms, and many buyers find a clear presenter easier to follow than text slides. Do not present an AI avatar as a real employee, and keep the product itself real footage.
Can I use AI-generated footage of the product or factory?
Not as if it were real. Buyers make purchasing decisions based on what your factory and product actually look like, and platforms review videos for misleading content. Use AI for scripts, voiceovers, subtitles, translation and editing, and film the product, factory and tests for real.
What are Alibaba.com's exact video limits?
Alibaba.com shows the current length, size and format limits in the upload screen of your seller account, and they change from time to time. Check there before you export. Adding video counts toward your listing's Product Information Score.
